5 Signs You Need a New Water Heater

The water heater warning signs

Water heaters rarely fail without warning. Here are the five most common signals our San Antonio plumbers see before a unit gives out.

1. Rusty or discolored hot water If the rust only shows up on the hot side, the tank lining is likely corroding from the inside.

2. Rumbling or banging noises Sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank causes popping sounds as water boils underneath it. A flush may help — or it may be too late.

3. Lukewarm showers A failing heating element, broken dip tube, or undersized unit will leave you fighting for hot water.

4. Water pooling around the base A leaking tank is rarely repairable. Replace it before it ruptures.

5. The unit is over 10 years old Tank water heaters typically last 8–12 years. If yours is in that window, start planning the replacement.
